We Need Constant Illumination

  • Date: December 27, 2012
  • Verse: Key Verses: "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." (1 John 1:7)
  • Summary:

Don't judge your position by morality, by social behavior, or by temporal accomplishments; but let it be judged by the Word of God. For you to, even for a moment, oppose the Holy Spirit's declaration of the heart of man shows your error, your haughtiness and your need for illumination. It makes us step back and go, "Okay, let's take a look. Let's let the light shine on us. I'm ready and willing to hear what the Word says.

The Eyes of Faith Are on the Lord

  • Date: October 18, 2017
  • Verse: “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.” (2 Chronicles 20:12)
  • Summary:

Let's see if we can grab a few principles that might help us in discovering where we are in relationship to the Spirit of God building this community of faith in our lives. We all have different gifts. We're all placed differently, severally, the Scripture says, as He wills. Regardless, we all have to live by faith, because without faith it's impossible to please Him. We have to get our lives off cruise control, in this abundant, weak society, and get back to seeking God in a way that we don't have a clue where our meal is coming from tomorrow.

In Faith, Personal Ambition Dies

  • Date: October 16, 2017
  • Verse: “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)
  • Summary:

Isaac, in his childhood, as he's growing up, saw the hand of God. How many of you would love to have experienced what Isaac experienced personally on Mount Moriah? How many of you would have loved to have been in that situation? Can I see your hands? No, I mean looking back. Looking back, we'd all love it. But we're in that ourselves in different places. God's working that same thing in us, to be able to trust Him as Jehovah Jireh, the provider of all that we need in our lives.

Faith is Content in God’s Calling

  • Date: October 10, 2017
  • Verse: “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
  • Summary:

Isaac, in his childhood, as he's growing up, saw the hand of God. How many of you would love to have experienced what Isaac experienced personally on Mount Moriah? How many of you would have loved to have been in that situation? Can I see your hands? No, I mean looking back. Looking back, we'd all love it; right? But we're in that ourselves in different places. Each Generation Has to Dig Their Own Wells

  • Date: October 6, 2017
  • Verse: “And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.” (Genesis 26:18)
  • Summary:

Isaac heard the stories of faith. "Son, I remember one day-and let me tell you about the God that we serve. Let me tell you about the God that we serve. There was a day when God called me and spoke to me and showed me all of the land that we would inherit. That's going to be yours one of these days. You're going to be walking over this ground one day that you're going to have your encounter with God." He is going to call him and say, "Isaac, walk before Me and be perfect. I'm the God of your father, Abraham.

Did You Encounter God Today?

  • Date: October 2, 2017
  • Verse: “And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)
  • Summary:

One thing this little Book brings out is this, and I think it's something that we need to think about in our lives. We come to service through strict obedience (don't we?) to the commandment, "Don't forsake the assembling." We see that as a commandment and we come in obedience. We don't always want to come. We come because we're commanded to. We come because we do have a heart to do the Word of God, but we don't always encounter God when we get here. You don't encounter God by how good the teaching happens to be that service.

A Man of Faith is a Man of Prayer

  • Date: September 27, 2017
  • Verse: “And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.” (Genesis 24:63)
  • Summary:

In Genesis 22:9, Isaac allows himself to be offered up, and we know then the story from there. Later, when it's time for Isaac to get a wife, and Abraham sends his servant into the land of their heritage. He wasn't going to have his son marry those that were in the local region, and so they're sending him back to the area that the family had come from. That there would be a wife that would be found there.

A Man of Faith Willingly Obeys

  • Date: September 25, 2017
  • Verse: “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” (Mark 9:23)
  • Summary:

So the question that I want to ask is how much faith do you have when someone you know to be a man of God, your parent, an overseer that's been placed by the Holy Spirit, and they tell you, "Here is God's plan." Now, there are other aspects. We're probably going to look at guidance here in just a moment. We're going to talk about the aspect of our unique placing in the body of Christ as it pleases Him, so don't just allow this one statement to be all that you hear in this whole process of Isaac's life, but you need to hear this.

Faith Trusts Biblical Order

  • Date: September 22, 2017
  • Verse: “And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.” (Genesis 22:7-8)
  • Summary:

Let's look a little bit into Isaac over in Genesis. We know he was the promised child. We know that the name Isaac means laughter. Sarah had laughed at that miraculous promise of God. The Scripture makes it very clear that this miracle had come as part of the testing and the trials that were upon Abraham. In Chapter 22, we find Isaac in one of the greatest, I believe, aspects of faith in his life that we need to grab hold of. Genesis 22, verse 1, "And it came to pass after these things, that God [tested] Abraham..." Just something very practical for us here.

Faith Seeks First the Kingdom of God

  • Date: September 20, 2017
  • Verse: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)
  • Summary:

Hebrews 11 gives us the verse we've been using repeatedly in this teaching because I want this to get into our hearts. Verse 8 of Hebrews 11, the great faith chapter, "By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed." And so we wanted you to get these principles in your notes. "When he was called..." He was called. "For many are called, but few are chosen," the Scripture says. Whosoever will may come. Many are called, but few choose to be the chosen. See, we have the ability to choose. We are free moral agents.

Faith Lets God Work Through You

  • Date: September 18, 2017
  • Verse: “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
  • Summary:

Many of us want to see the spectacular, you know, the miracles and the supernatural, and thank God that is available to us in this hour. I believe we're going to see more of it as the day goes on. You need to understand, and I need to come to grips with the fact that we have been so insulated. We are so weak. We are probably the weakest of the church of Jesus Christ in the world today. The most knowledgeable, the most affluent, but we've not known the winepress that so much of the church is going through today.

Faith Consistently Opposes the World

  • Date: September 11, 2017
  • Verse: “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:12)
  • Summary:

"Be…followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises [of God]" (Hebrews 6:12). In the last session, we had mentioned that so often we leave off the first part of that Scripture. It says, "That ye be not slothful, but followers of them…" One of things that we see today is a generation that seeks ease and comfort and instant gratification. To become men and women of faith, you're going to need patience. The Bible teaches that "Ye have need of patience…" (Hebrews 10:36).

Faith Labors to Enter In

  • Date: September 8, 2017
  • Verse: “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:12)
  • Summary:

I want to point out a couple of things that I think are practical for us as we look at this study: "Faith That Prevails," or faith and patience. "[Be] followers of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises [of God]" (Hebrews 6:12). Look over real quickly at this passage that we're all familiar with in Hebrews 6. As I just quoted it, so often I leave the first part of it off, but I want us to look at it now. "Put away slothfulness and be followers of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises of God.

Faith Comes as We Commune with God

  • Date: September 4, 2017
  • Verse: “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.” (Hebrews 11:8)
  • Summary:

Let's turn back to Hebrews Chapter 11. The subject that we've been dealing with is faith that really requires with it patience, a faith that requires the obedience, a doing, a working-type faith. As we've been studying Abraham, we see that Abraham was called-I hope you'll have this in your notes by now-that Abraham was called, that Abraham obeyed, that Abraham went, and that Abraham sojourned. Those four major aspects here in Hebrews Chapter 11 that talks about the father of our faith.

Faith Requires Selfness to Die

  • Date: September 1, 2017
  • Verse: “And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God…” (Romans 4:19-20)
  • Summary:

"Without faith it is impossible to please God." I hate, I absolutely hate, I'm telling you. I hate those first steps of faith into the fray! I hate the feeling of helplessness, but I love the knowledge of the presence of God. When I'm finally able to lie down in the midst of it, in His arms in the back of the boat, there's no place I'd rather be, and I hate going there! Anybody know what I'm talking about? But He's called us to sojourn there. To always choose to go not knowing where you go.

Faith Goes Not Knowing

  • Date: August 28, 2017
  • Verse: “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.” (Hebrews 11:8)
  • Summary:

We like to have some kind of control. Don't you like to have some kind of knowledge, "What am I going into?" That's the one thing about faith. Faith will never reveal to you, up front, the journey. You just step out of the boat. You just go, not knowing. We see it throughout the Scriptures in many of these great men. And many of us have experienced it. How many of you have done that and then there's the anxiousness, but there's also the awareness of His presence. There's the anxiousness of the unknown; it's scary. You don't know if you're going to survive or not.

Faithful Obedience

  • Date: August 24, 2017
  • Verse: “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.” (Hebrews 11:8)
  • Summary:

We've been talking about Abraham and those aspects that we said we want you to get into your memory. It's so important, this one sentence and the phrasing that's used. Verse eight of Chapter 11 of Hebrews says, "By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and went out, not knowing whither he went.

Faith Diligently Pursues Christlikeness

  • Date: August 21, 2017
  • Verse: “And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:11-12)
  • Summary:

Turn over to Hebrews 6 for just a moment. Hebrews 6, verse 12, "…be not slothful." Many of us are so proud of the work ethic that we've instilled into our children. The problem is it's a natural work ethic. It's a worldly work ethic. Can I give you the biblical work ethic? "Cease from your own labors and enter into rest." There's the work ethic of the Bible. But here we are and we think we are teaching our kids character. We think we are teaching them a work ethic and all we're doing is helping them achieve their idols. We're training them up in the world's wisdom.

Faith Is Our Lifestyle

  • Date: August 18, 2017
  • Verse: “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
  • Summary:

The living Word, Jesus, the written Word-God and His Word are one. It's obvious that faith comes by communing with God, fellowshipping with God. How much time do we get in that quietness to where He can actually take over our lives as now our treasure, truly? When it comes to running or playing or whatever else steals our time, we're just saying, "Nah, man! This is too precious to me.

Faith Simplifies

  • Date: August 16, 2017
  • Verse: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1)
  • Summary:

The teaching that we're on is "Faith with Patience." The greatest hindrance to our faith is all of these weights, the abundance of this world, the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, the lust of things that enter in and chokes the word (Mark 4:19). What does the word "beset" mean? To surround and to bind, like a bear hug, to choke off. The great admonition of the Word of God is how to stand in this last day, to walk free, to be seekers first of the kingdom of God and His righteousness and believe that He will provide all of these things that are necessities to us.

Faith Enduring Even More

  • Date: August 9, 2017
  • Verse: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25)
  • Summary:

The study here on faith and patience that we're doing, we're calling it "Faith That Prevails" or faith that endures. I told you the hardest thing to do to come up with titles over thirty five or forty years. We're basically doing the teaching that we did twenty years ago that we called "Faith and Patience." We just have a different title and a little different emphasis. The emphasis that we want to put on this is not faith and patience that has to do with the physical oppression of the enemy. We're not just talking about faith for healing. We dealt a lot with healing back then.
