Unity in Knowing Jesus

  • Date: November 14, 2013
  • Verse: “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)
  • Summary:

We'd like to think that as believers we're living sanctified lives, living free from the world. But we don't want to minimize how vexed we are by the world. We've been challenged in recent months as to how carnally minded we really are, how vexed we are by the world that we're living in. If you don't think that's possible, remember what the Lord said. He said, "Listen, you're living in a time when, if it wasn't shortened, even the very elect wouldn't be able to stand.

Faith Treasures the Eternal

  • Date: December 8, 2017
  • Verse: “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:24)

Faith Patiently Endures

  • Date: December 6, 2017
  • Verse: “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:12)
  • Summary:

The great men of faith, when they went out, messed up, didn't they? And they owned up to it. Many of us have too much pride to own up to it. But we've already taken a look at Abraham, and we just finished a look at Isaac: Isaac, the conduit; Isaac, the man who didn't have to set his own agenda. What a man of faith, that just realizes, "The only reason I'm here is to let her flow. I don't have to come up with new revelation. I don't have to be the hotshot on the block. They don't have to have my name in lights.

Faith Relies on the Presence of God

  • Date: December 4, 2017
  • Verse: “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” (1 John 2:6)
  • Summary:

As He has chosen to reveal Himself in His Word, we come to Him. He has revealed Himself to us, and we have the knowledge of God through His Word, both written and living-Jesus, as He appeared in the flesh and came and dwelt among us, Emmanuel ("God with us"). So we look at His life, and we see the life of Jesus. But that's what He has revealed of Himself to the finite; He is bigger than that. But we can't even handle what He has revealed. So we have faith in the infinite God, the omnipotent God. He is all‑powerful. They marveled that the wind and the waves were subject to Him.

Faith is a Lifestyle

  • Date: December 1, 2017
  • Verse: “I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
  • Summary:

We're answering the question out of Luke 18:8. The Lord said, "When [I] come, will I find faith on the earth" (Luke 18:0? Many of us, like Peter, would say, "Oh, yes. Amen! Praise God, I'm living in faith. We understand that without faith it is impossible to please Him and that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. I study the Word. I know the Word, and my life is committed to the Lord. So I'm in good shape, praise God." If that is your response, I would become a little more sober and realize that if Jesus asked that question, maybe it's a valid question.

The Heart of Faith Treasures Father’s Presence

  • Date: November 27, 2017
  • Verse: “And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.” (Genesis 32:25-27)
  • Summary:

We know the story in Genesis of Jacob's wrestling match. Jacob is wanting the Lord to surrender to his will as He asks him, "What is your name" (Genesis 32:27)? See, that phrase if you study it out is very similar to saying "say uncle!" when you're getting whipped. Can you imagine? He is wrestling Jesus, and he's got this thing going on, and he says, "Are you ready to say 'uncle'?" That's not a good thing. The wrestling match occurs. Isn't it amazing how God will let us fight against Him until we wear ourselves out? We think we've got God on the ropes.

Faith Keeps Believing

  • Date: November 22, 2017
  • Verse: “I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
  • Summary:

In one of Willard Cantelon's letters, he said, "Recording your sermons is one of the wisest things you have ever done. And knowing that these messages can be transcribed into writing and find their way into all levels of life is the leading of the Holy Spirit. I know we look for the soon return of Jesus; but, as He tarries, we seek to fulfill the ministry He has given us." Willard goes on and covers a number of different aspects. This stuff is so old that I don't think they even have it today; and from reading it, my thumb has actually made a lot of the words go away.

Be Found Faithful

  • Date: November 20, 2017
  • Verse: “I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
  • Summary:

We need to return to where we covet the manna-God's supernatural supply. "What is it?" That's what the word manna means. "What is it?" I don't know; but it's good because it's from God, praise God. "How does it taste?" Godly. It's the confidence in the Holy Spirit that leads us into truth. This is a part of the ministry of the Spirit of God, and the power that comes through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and that anointing that abides within; but one thing we need to realize is that the Holy Spirit is leading us into truth, praise God, into the Word of God, both written and living.

Faith to Lead the Next Generation

  • Date: November 15, 2017
  • Verse: “I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
  • Summary:

We visited California a while back. I told you how tragic it was, as we drove from San Jose over the hill into Santa Cruz. I have always been excited about seeing the big sign-"Bethany Bible College"-there. I was telling Greer about it as we were coming upon it pretty soon. It was tragic, as we came over; it just said, "Bethany College."

We stopped in, but I couldn't find anybody I knew. There were just all these kids. And so, I started talking to some of them, and every person I talked to was a psych major.

Faith Rests in the Providence of God

  • Date: November 13, 2017
  • Verse: “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
  • Summary:

I can't remember the number of the channel in LA, but Willard Cantelon started what eventually was given to Paul Crouch, which is TBN today. We know that there is a lot of weird stuff on there; but, nevertheless, over the decades a lot of the Gospel went out, and the world has been affected with the Gospel through it. Willard would start something like that, give it to somebody, and walk away.

Faith Makes Room for the Man of Faith

  • Date: November 11, 2017
  • Verse: “And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” (Genesis 26:22)
  • Summary:

The evangelism of the world did not begin with the Holy Ghost coming into the midst of the people and bringing about revelation and power on the day of Pentecost, to where everybody then caught this great vision to go into world missions. Evangelism began with persecution and disbursement. When everybody got full of the Holy Ghost on Pentecost, people began to hear the gospel. They got saved. They're excited. Persecution, trials came and spread them all over the world to take the gospel. Many of us seem to think that conflict and opposition is a lack of faith.

Faith Sees God’s Bigger Picture

  • Date: November 5, 2017
  • Verse: “And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” (Genesis 26:22)
  • Summary:

"And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we. And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there. And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them" (Genesis 26:16-18). Isaac is beginning to move out, blessed, but he looks around and says, "I want what my father had.

Faith Digs the Wells Again

  • Date: November 1, 2017
  • Verse: “And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.” (Genesis 26:18)
  • Summary:

Isaac was prospering. The man's prospering greater than he ever has in his life and the Philistines envied him. Then the Scripture says, "…the Philistines envied him. For all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth. And [in his prosperity] Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we" (Genesis 26:14-16). Isn't that interesting? He goes down there just looking for a place to believe God. God prospers him beyond everyone around him.

Faith Wants What God Wants

  • Date: October 20, 2017
  • Verse: “Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.” (Genesis 26:3-5)
  • Summary:

In Genesis Chapter 26, during the time of famine, the Lord tells Isaac not to leave for Egypt but to stay in the land and I will bless you (verses 1-3). Then, in Verse 5, He says, "Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, I will perform the oath because of your father Abraham, regardless of what you do." We're not going to prevent God with our lameness because there's been a promise to one greater than Abraham. The promise is to Jesus the seed! He said, "I'll build a church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it.

The Eyes of Faith Are on the Lord

  • Date: October 18, 2017
  • Verse: “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.” (2 Chronicles 20:12)
  • Summary:

Let's see if we can grab a few principles that might help us in discovering where we are in relationship to the Spirit of God building this community of faith in our lives. We all have different gifts. We're all placed differently, severally, the Scripture says, as He wills. Regardless, we all have to live by faith, because without faith it's impossible to please Him. We have to get our lives off cruise control, in this abundant, weak society, and get back to seeking God in a way that we don't have a clue where our meal is coming from tomorrow.

In Faith, Personal Ambition Dies

  • Date: October 16, 2017
  • Verse: “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)
  • Summary:

Isaac, in his childhood, as he's growing up, saw the hand of God. How many of you would love to have experienced what Isaac experienced personally on Mount Moriah? How many of you would have loved to have been in that situation? Can I see your hands? No, I mean looking back. Looking back, we'd all love it. But we're in that ourselves in different places. God's working that same thing in us, to be able to trust Him as Jehovah Jireh, the provider of all that we need in our lives.

Faith is Content in God’s Calling

  • Date: October 10, 2017
  • Verse: “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
  • Summary:

Isaac, in his childhood, as he's growing up, saw the hand of God. How many of you would love to have experienced what Isaac experienced personally on Mount Moriah? How many of you would have loved to have been in that situation? Can I see your hands? No, I mean looking back. Looking back, we'd all love it; right? But we're in that ourselves in different places. Each Generation Has to Dig Their Own Wells

  • Date: October 6, 2017
  • Verse: “And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.” (Genesis 26:18)
  • Summary:

Isaac heard the stories of faith. "Son, I remember one day-and let me tell you about the God that we serve. Let me tell you about the God that we serve. There was a day when God called me and spoke to me and showed me all of the land that we would inherit. That's going to be yours one of these days. You're going to be walking over this ground one day that you're going to have your encounter with God." He is going to call him and say, "Isaac, walk before Me and be perfect. I'm the God of your father, Abraham.

Did You Encounter God Today?

  • Date: October 2, 2017
  • Verse: “And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)
  • Summary:

One thing this little Book brings out is this, and I think it's something that we need to think about in our lives. We come to service through strict obedience (don't we?) to the commandment, "Don't forsake the assembling." We see that as a commandment and we come in obedience. We don't always want to come. We come because we're commanded to. We come because we do have a heart to do the Word of God, but we don't always encounter God when we get here. You don't encounter God by how good the teaching happens to be that service.
