- Scripture: “Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.” (Genesis 26:3-5)
- From Faith That Prevails
In Genesis Chapter 26, during the time of famine, the Lord tells Isaac not to leave for Egypt but to stay in the land and I will bless you (verses 1-3). Then, in Verse 5, He says, "Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, I will perform the oath because of your father Abraham, regardless of what you do." We're not going to prevent God with our lameness because there's been a promise to one greater than Abraham. The promise is to Jesus the seed! He said, "I'll build a church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it." In the midst of all of this wickedness and vileness, in the midst of this Sodom and Gomorrah, we have the promise of a God who is greater than he that is in the world, who's empowered us to resist. The enemy will flee. "Because [your father] obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes and my laws, because of that I'm going to bless you." I want you to know something: some of you young people are blessed here tonight because of your fathers' obedience, because of your parents' obedience, because of leadership's obedience. You're blessed of God, but you're going to have to dig your own wells. This isn't a free lunch. You cannot gain faith and patience without adversity. We have need of patience. We are a generation that needs patience. Now, now, now! Instant gratification. We want everything now. We want the best. All we're saying is: we need to want what God wants for us.
Remember, there was a famine. God led him to these people. He said, "Don't go to Egypt. You go where I'm telling you to go." "Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great." Now wait a minute. This is the guy that inherited Abraham's blessings and it's expanding! Think about that. We don't always hear about that part, but I want you to see that Isaac is prospering. Isaac is living in obedience. He's living in humility. He's now had his own visitation from God. The Lord appeared to him and said, "Do not go to Egypt." I think it would be good if some of us could have that appearance right now and hear, "Don't go to Egypt." Stay away from the world. Stop putting your confidence over there. Don't worry about everything else that the world is worried about. Take some time and, if you want to make some proper investments, make it in your soul. Get some time alone with God and invest for eternity! Invest in building faith and strength so that when all these blessings take wings and fly away, a man's faith shall sustain him! That's what these messages are all about.
