In Hebrews Chapter 12, Verse 1 it says, "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin [of unbelief] which doth so easily [bind us up]." Or, as Mark says, "The cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, the lusts of other things." You know, we need to take note of this one phrase, "that doth so easily..." We think, "We're bad, man! We think we're going out there and we're bad, and sin doesn't bother us." I want you to know something. The Scripture says we're living in the midst of "a crooked and perverse generation." The Bible says that there is a satanic force as a lion that's going about "seeking whom he may devour." How safe are you today? Are you trusting in yourself? Are you out on the periphery? Or, are you right in the middle of this straight and narrow way, seeking the eternal? How would you evaluate yourself?

We are at war, and the enemy's seeking to destroy us, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation. The Scripture says, "If I were you…" You remember we told you the story about Bill Cosby? "I wouldn't do that if I were you." His great philosophy that he's sharing with his grandkids, right? "I wouldn't do that if I were you." The kid pulls everything down on himself and he's crying. The mama runs in there and says, "Dad, I thought you were watching the kid. How could you let him do this?" He looked over at his daughter and said, "I told him, 'I wouldn't do that if I was you.'" Sometimes we have to learn by experience, don't we? And then the next generation comes up and we're sitting there. Now we've got the gray hair and we turn to our grandkids and go, "I wouldn't do that if I were you." But tragically, our generation today runs around with silk pillows and has all of these things nailed to the wall and all of the knickknacks removed and the kid in a bubble suit. And you know what works better than that? "I wouldn't do that if I were you." "So great a cloud of witnesses," a people that are here that have gone before us giving us counsel saying, "I wouldn't do that if I were you." I want to tell you one of the things they're telling us, "I wouldn't get involved in this world if I were you. You think you can handle it, but I wouldn't touch it if I were you." You want some wisdom? "Wherefore come out from among them, and be separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you". See, that's what this generation that's gone on before us says. Many of these men knew what it meant to be hated of the world. Do we?

So he says that these things, "Every weight, and the sin which doth so easily [bind us up.]" We don't like that; we think that we're strong. The Holy Spirit says, "You're nothing." We don't like that! But we go around quoting that "without Him we can do nothing. Without Him we can do nothing." But we think we're something, don't we? We think we can do something. And he said, "You are no match for this spirit of the world! I wouldn't do that if I were you."
