  • Scripture: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Our God is a generational God, He's the Father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We know that when this message is generational, it's not something that's just coming from the current day's mouthpiece but it's a word that's been spoken to us as a people for generations. There is a new voice in the world today and it's the voice of antichrist. It's the voice of humanism. And aren't you glad that we're the children of those who were part of that great cloud of witnesses. The great cloud of Hebrews 12. Let's turn over there for just a second. We're going to be back in Hebrews 11. Hebrews 11 speaks of the great cloud of those prophets who had gone before and the great patriarchs, Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. He gives this great hall of fame of those who were men and women of faith, of Joseph. He gets into the story of Moses. That's where I was going to go into the life of Moses, but I think, maybe, we're headed a different direction. I've spent the last, probably four days, just meditating on Moses and some of the great points in his life of walking in faith. And we will get to those in our study here on "Faith that Endures."

But I was meditating that those are not men that we've known. We've known of them, but we've not known them. The Scripture says, "Be followers of those who through faith and patience have inherited the promises of God". And then the Scripture, we're admonished "to know those that labor among us" (1 Thessalonians 5:12). God has men today. There are men today, all over the world, that are part of this testimony. Can you say, "Praise God!" for that? We get to run into those people, periodically. As I've shared in my testimony, I've been privileged to sit at the feet of some of the great men of our generation, to be able to see, to meet people like a Frank Boyd. Many of you don't even know who he is. But he was one of the general superintendents of the Assemblies of God. He was one of the learned men of a movement that didn't have a lot of learned men.

Isn't it interesting how the Bible says God picks those that are not "mighty or noble"? (1 Corinthians 1:26). Aren't you glad He does, or most of us would be left out! But in the midst of that, when the Holy Spirit visited those that were on the bad side of the railroad tracks or, as they used to say, "On the other side of the tracks." Most of us are "other side of the tracks" people; we're not blue bloods. We're not of the hierarchy, we're just folks. But God has put His Spirit in us! God has seen fit to call us His sons! It doesn't get any better than that! The Bible says that God the Father loves us, as He did Jesus. That one blows my mind! And it's because of Jesus! Don't take any credit, "Well, God loves me as much as He did Jesus." He loves you through Jesus, and the Lord has done all of the work.

But, Father's accepted us in the beloved, and the fact of the matter, is we are somebody today! We are somebody in the kingdom that matters, the kingdom of heaven! "We are heirs and joint heirs," the Scripture says, "with Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:17). I don't know about you, but I'd rather be somebody in heaven than somebody on earth. They can have this place. They can have their wealth; they can have their fame. But, like Moses of old, we "choose to suffer the reproach with the people of God." That's our choice, praise God! We are so blessed!
