  • From Faith That Prevails

One of the things that I want to emphasize as we're looking into how to build our faith, is that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. We know that this doesn't mean getting Scourby and just listening to the Word. However, how many of you know that this is very important? We need to put the Word of God into our hearts and into our minds. We always need to be ready to give an answer for the hope that's in us. We need to know how to rightly divide this word of truth. When the Holy Spirit spoke the words, "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God," we know who the Word is. We have the written Word and we have the living Word. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1).

We embrace the lordship of Jesus as we look into the Scriptures, because the Word of God is alive and powerful. This thing is alive. We have the living Word, which is the written Word, and we have the living Word which is the Son of God, the very God, and the Lord Jesus. They never conflict. God and His Word are one. As we embrace the Word, whether through prayer and fellowship, the word spoken in communion with the Lord as we're sitting quiet before Him, or the Word that we're studying here, it becomes alive. It becomes rhema to us. You can receive faith by all of those vehicles. The word that we receive by revelation from our prayer, fasting, and communion with the Lord Jesus will always be in agreement with this written Word. The written Word will always be in agreement with the living Jesus. As we understand that we can fellowship and commune with Him. He shows us His life and He spoke to us and said, "If you want to walk in a faith that prevails don't come speaking your own words, but the words of He that sent you. Don't look for your own will. Don't go into the Word of God and try to proof text your will. Don't allow lust to rise up in your heart and then try to find a biblical passage that allows you to embrace it. Come to the Word of God looking for the will of God. It will always be contrary to your flesh." Your flesh never gets better.

To be a friend of the world is to be at enmity with God (James 4:4). To be a friend of the world opposes the Word. To be a friend of the world opposes the lordship of Jesus. To be a friend of the world negates your ability to hear God. To be a friend of the world destroys the vehicle of faith. "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world" (1 John 2:16). How much of a hold does the world have on you? If it has a hold of your life, you can't hear from God. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. There must be an empty vessel, a pure vessel, and a quiet vessel. You must be a vessel seeking Him with all of your heart, because when you seek Him with all of your heart you find Him.
