We need to return to where we covet the manna-God's supernatural supply. "What is it?" That's what the word manna means. "What is it?" I don't know; but it's good because it's from God, praise God. "How does it taste?" Godly. It's the confidence in the Holy Spirit that leads us into truth. This is a part of the ministry of the Spirit of God, and the power that comes through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and that anointing that abides within; but one thing we need to realize is that the Holy Spirit is leading us into truth, praise God, into the Word of God, both written and living. He wants us to get to the place where our sole wisdom and strength is in the Word of God alone.
So, as we look at this great cloud of witnesses that has gone on before-and part of why I am sharing this about Willard and some of these men-we look so far off to the great cloud of witnesses, we look at Abraham, and we look at Moses, and we look centuries away, but I want to tell you something: We are only one generation removed from some great men! But, I have a question: Where are they today? Who is great in our generation? We tend to count greatness by how many radio stations and television stations somebody is on, and how well known they are, nationally, and how popular they are, and how big a sanctuary they have. I want to tell you something: I have preached in some of the biggest sanctuaries in our country. I have preached in the biggest churches-in fact, the biggest church in the world. I have preached in the world's largest Methodist church. In Seoul, South Korea, I preached in the largest Methodist church in the world. "What did you preach there?" The same thing I preach everywhere! I have preached in the largest Baptist church in the country. I have been in meetings where I preached to tens of thousands of people. I have been in meetings where, for 30 minutes, at a rate like this [snapping fingers] I laid hands on people and saw miracle after miracle after miracle.
What about this generation? All I know is that, what I had and lost, I am getting again! That's all I know. I'm not talking about the signs and wonders; I don't care about signs and wonders. I just want to know His presence. I want to have the absolute confidence that I am full of the presence of God and that He is my absolute Source for my next breath, for every thought, for every decision; because, without Him I can do nothing! That's where I want to live. Father is moving me in the right direction. And He is beating the tar out of me, and then He is pouring oil into the wounds and healing me, and then He is taking me into His arms and comforting me as a little child, and then He reassures me that I am His son, and then He tells me things like, "I love you as much as I love Jesus," (that freaks me out), and then He says, "OK, go on out there and get beat up some more. And, if the enemy doesn't beat you up enough, then I will, because you need some character adjustment: you are still too full of yourself; you still trust in yourself too much; you still have too much of Jacob in you, to where you try to wheel and deal and change everything to your advantage, and you think you are in control of your life; you think you control the environment; you think you are capable."
I don't even want those thoughts in my mind. I want to know that what I am doing originates with Him and for His glory! I don't want anything the world can offer. I want to stand like our father of faith, Abraham, and say, "Nobody will say they made me rich!" I'm not talking about money; I'm talking about rich with the knowledge of God, with the presence of God, with faith that casts out all fear! You can't get richer than that. Do you want to be rich? Then live without fear, live in peace, and live by faith. It doesn't get richer than that.
